Welcome to the keeworld How-To.
Here we will explain how to do what you want to do in keeworld.

Keeworld is quite different from the default home applications that usually ship with an Android device, so we’re here to try to help you get a bit of a jump start to get used to using keeworld’s unique interface.

First off, this is what keeworld looks like when you start it up for the first time!

There you go! We wanted to give you a clean interface so you could enjoy things more important than tens of icons filling up and polluting your screen. Minus widgets and your background wallpaper, when you are not doing anything, this is all you will ever see in keeworld. Simplicity.

But of course that simplicity is useless if you can’t get anything done on your Android device. So let’s move on to actually using keeworld. We’ll start by introducing a couple concepts to you that are unique to keeworld.

Pocket and Ribbon

When you drag the ribbon over this and let go, the ribbon will lock and you will be able to interact with the ribbon.

You can scroll through a ribbon in the same way as any other list in Android, flick your finger, or just drag your finger up and down the screen. Be careful! In order to get through your ribbon’s items fast, if you flick hard, the ribbon will do what you told it to and will fly through those items fast to get you to where you want to go. To interact with an item in the ribbon, just press it and let go.

To close the ribbon, ‘unlock’ it by dragging your finger from the ribbon lock to somewhere else and let go, or just hit the back button.

Layers

Keeworld doesn’t scroll left and right to give you more space to put your hundreds of icons like the default home does. Instead, it lets you organize things with ‘depth’. Keeworld is organized in to layers. When you start up keeworld for the first time, there are 4 layers present. The top most one is the Pocket layer that has your pockets, pocketins, and ribbons in it. Next is the Widget layer. Here you can put your widgets that you know and love from your default home.  Below that is the Wallpaper layer. Here you can choose to display the current system’s wallpaper, choose your own new wallpaper, or use the current Theme’s wallpaper (Full theme support is on the way. Right now there is only one, the default theme).  The bottom layer is the Solid Colour Background layer. This just simply is one solid colour of your choosing.

As long as some part of a layer is transparent, you can see the layers that are behind it. What does this mean? It means that since the Pocket layer is on top and is mostly transparent (except the pockets) you can see the widgets beneath it! Also since if you didn’t have enough widgets to fill your whole screen, it means the wallpaper beneath the widgets is also visible. But even better, is that ‘if’ the wallpaper image has some transparency to it (most do not, and ‘no’ camera pictures have transparency), like the theme’s wallpaper, you will be able to see the shade of the solid colour behind the wallpaper, making your wallpaper change colours depending on what you tell the Solid Colour Background layer’s colour to be.

You can also change what layer is temporarily on top, like having 4 pieces of paper stacked on each other in front of your face, and then taking the top piece and moving it behind your head so you can not see it anymore. You do this by ‘double tapping’ the screen and ‘holding the last tap (One full tap, and one half tap so-to-say) and then drag your finger up or down. You will see the layers move towards you until they disappear behind your screen. Double tap and drag in the opposite direction to bring it back to normal again.

You can customize your layers, including the order they are in, addition and deletion of them, through the keeworld settings layers screen. You can find this by pressing the Menu key and pressing ‘keeworld settings’.

Widgets Layer

If you have a widget layer, if you long-press your screen over an open section, the ‘Add a widget’ dialog will appear. Select which widget you would like to add and it will be added to where you originally pressed. A widget can then be moved by long-pressing the widget and dragging it around. You can delete a widget by long-pressing it and dragging it over the ‘widget removal’ section of screen, as shown by the image below.

It will turn red when it is ok to let go and the widget will be removed for you.

Wallpaper Layer

This allows you to display images in keeworld. When choosing the image to display, you can choose the current wallpaper (image only, not live wallpaper) another image on your device, or the current theme’s wallpaper. Drag your finger around the screen and you’ll notice the wallpaper move with your finger (If the wallpaper is larger than the screen itself). This allows you to use any size of image and view it at any place you wish.

Pocket and Pocketin Types

You now know how to use keeworld, so now we’ll tell you what keeworld lets you do when you use it. First we’ll explain the three different pockets.

	This is the ‘Actions’ pocket. The pocketins inside this pocket allow you to ‘do’ stuff like launch your applications and do the things you need to do on a phone.
	This is the ‘Connections’ pocket. The pocketins inside this pocket give you various ways to keep up with your social life such as messaging, mail, contacts, and call logs.
	This is the ‘Expressions’ pocket. It will give you pocketins to quickly view and access all the media on your device.
	This means you have some new notifications happening in your social life! Will displayed along with a number to tell you how many new events have happened.

Next we’ll explain each of the pocketins quickly with an image of what it looks like and a quick description.

	Applications. Show all the currently installed applications on your device.
	Shortcuts. Currently only shows your phone and browser shortcuts to access those features quickly.
	Folders. Gives you access to all Live Folders installed on your device.
	Call log. Displays your call log for you.
	Contacts. Displays all your contacts from all accounts.
	Messages. Will show the GMail, SMS, and Chat pocketins.
	GMail. Displays your GMail messages in your inbox.
	SMS. Displays your SMS conversations.
	Chat. Shows your GTalk active conversations (Currently does not work with Android 2.1 and up)
	Music. Display all your music tracks.
	Videos. Displays all videos on your device.
	Images. Shows all images on your device.
	Facebook. Shows your News Feed
	Twitter. Shows all messages

Interact with the items that come from the pocketin’s ribbons to see what they do!

Settings Example: Display Your Wallpaper Only

Displaying your wallpaper without the theme might be something you would like to do.

In order to achieve this, go to the Keeworld’s Layer preferences and remove all layers except the two layers Widgets and Pocket Layer (which are required to use this application). Back in the main preferences set the Show Wallpaper check box and select your wallpaper with Set Wallpaper.

Note, that the pockets and pocketins will still be displayed after the current theme. If the theme does not provide any special pockets and pocketins graphics, the default theme’s graphics will be taken.
